God Doesn't Want Your Money, He Wants Your Worship
Did you know that the tithe God asked the Hebrews to give to Him, was not for HIM, but to take to a worship place God would decide on and eat and have a large celebration, so that they would appreciate and worship God who had made them prosperous?
God does not want your money, He wants your Worship!
He did say on every 3rd harvest, take the food (tithe) into your town and put it in the storehouse so the preachers and the poor could eat too.
Here are the verses below that I’m referring to. More good stuff begins in Deuteronomy 11. This is the Amplified Bible version.
Give the Lord Ten Percent of Your Harvest
22 People of Israel, every year you must set aside ten percent of your grain harvest. 23 Also set aside ten percent of your wine and olive oil, and the first-born of every cow, sheep, and goat. Take these to the place where the Lord chooses to be worshiped, and eat them there. This will teach you to always respect the Lord your God.
24 But suppose you can’t carry that ten percent of your harvest to the place where the Lord chooses to be worshiped. If you live too far away, or if the Lord gives you a big harvest, 25 then sell this part and take the money there instead. 26 When you and your family arrive, spend the money on food for a big celebration. Buy cattle, sheep, goats, wine, beer, and if there are any other kinds of food that you want, buy those too. 27 And since people of the Levi tribe won’t own any land for growing crops, remember to ask the Levites to celebrate with you.
28 Every third year, instead of using the ten percent of your harvest for a big celebration, bring it into town and put it in a community storehouse. 29 The Levites have no land of their own, so you must give them food from the storehouse. You must also give food to the poor who live in your town, including orphans, widows, and foreigners. If they have enough to eat, then the Lord your God will be pleased and make you successful in everything you do.
Did you notice that He even told them they could buy wine and beer and any other foods they desired? Why? Because He wanted them to be merry in their heart and know that God wants only good things for them! A happy people who followed His instructions obediently and gave Him the glory and credit for what they had, was the plan! It still is!
We are not under the law anymore, we are not obligated to perform the things of the law, but we are expected to give to the poor and celebrate with joy and thanksgiving to the Lord!
We need buildings to worship in, places where people can go when they want to find God, and when they have problems, and when they want to unite their voices together in praise!
So bills have to be paid and preachers need to live too. As in the Hebrew days of the law, preachers (like the Levites) should devote themselves to God and not try to own lands and build businesses.
It’s very hard to serve two masters! If you’re trying to run your business to support your family, how can you give sufficient time to studying the word and spending time with God? Those who choose to serve the Lord should jump in with both feet (as God grants) and depend on the mercy and provision of God, perhaps more so than the rest of us.
Those who worship God under them, who call them for prayer and for weddings, funerals and all the other services a preacher performs, should be glad and willing to support the preacher and the church building with their tithe income. Not miserly, pinching out the lowest salary possible, but with gladness of heart, allowing the preacher’s family the same hopes of good clothes, comfort and schools that you would want for your family.
If you know
preachers who have to work because their church does not produce enough income
to cover their needs, don’t be critical of them. Instead rise up and help them, commit to your
local church and give them the opportunity to choose to serve the Lord with all
their time and heart.
To God be the praise and glory! In Jesus’ name I send out this teaching and ask that the Word bless and heal all who read or hear it.
God bless you all.
