Power For Living

Beloved, when you are stressed out, tired out, and feel like everything in your life is out of place - stop for a moment and close your eyes.  I'm going to give you a thought that should help bring you back into peace and harmony.

"Who do men say that I am?"  Jesus asked His followers.  Several of his closest friends, and church "staff" attempted to answer His question.  One said "They say you are a great prophet."  "Elijah returned in the flesh."  They called Him rabbi, or teacher.

"Who do YOU say that I am?"  He then asked His men.  Only one dared answer and it burst forth from him like sunshine through a rain cloud.  "You are the Christ, the one who was to come."

Ask yourself now, Who are you?  What will you answer?  I am Lisa, I have many titles and offices on earth, as mother, wife, friend, teacher etc.  But who is Lisa?  Inside of me, several voices speak.  Not demonic urgings of evil, but the Lisa that I was at various ages.  The child, the struggling adolescent, the humbled adult, and the Holy Spirit also lives inside of me.

The Holy Spirit speaks gently and honestly, with no covering of pride or motivation for self seeking.  It speaks truth.  The "me" that comes closest to the true Lisa, is the child.  It is innocently humble, not wishing or expecting harm on anyone or from anyone.  It is the love voice that wants to share, and if I sit very quietly and think deep within, I can touch an understanding of Who I really am as God created me.

I knew before I became a teenager that I was an artist and a writer.  I don't have any idea how I knew, because it wasn't a knowing of "I want to be a writer when I grow up".  It was an understanding that these two things were my gifts at that point.

Later, as I became a Christian and the Holy Spirit filled me with God's love, I began exercising other gifts - mercy, charity, patience, etc.  But there is a silver thread connecting you to your creator that brings you back into the revelation of who you are and what you are doing here.  It is a very quiet "voice", not spoken but felt.  And it might take you a while of searching to recognize it amidst the clamoring of all the other "you's" that are vying for attention and expression.

I believe modern psychology has approached the internal voice issue incorrectly.  Most of us have this experience as we grow and search for ourselves in maturity.  We seem to feel divided and as if there are many of us in this body.

I believe this is just a result of the lifestyle, the modern technology that has distracted us throughout our youth, so that we no longer remain in touch with our true natures as we grow, but split for a time as we reach out to "become" something we see as valuable in society.

You are a three part being, consisting of a body, a soul and a spirit.  Your body is the vehicle that transports you from one place to another in this material plane, and the "house" that keeps all your parts together.  It is called the temple of God because God made it, very carefully.  He chose your eye color and hair color Himself.  The Psalms tell us this, describing how He carefully forms us and watches over us while we're yet in the womb.  The body is the hosting place of the Holy Spirit when we become born again into God's kingdom.

Your spirit is the eternal part of you, the material that your eternal self is made of, and the part that God quickens when you are "born again".
Your soul is your mind, your thoughts, your will, your emotions and all that you love.

You are created in the image of God, as He also is a three part Being.  He consists of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Father is the spirit that is ever knowing and ever present, He is the fabric of all the universe.  The Spirit is the power and will of God, acting out in the material plane, but with a mind and understanding of His own.  The Son is the physical expression of God, and the gift, the payment for our sins.

Jesus was first God, then taking a part of Himself He placed it into a human form, and walked among men.  Jesus held God inside, yet was living inside God (as all that is, does).  And Jesus left this plane, to return to His Father, not to become again one, but to sit at His right hand and be a mediator for us, to beg forgiveness for us of the Almighty God and to champion our cause.

He is the mighty prince and the holder of the keys to life and death and hell.  He is your "husband", figuratively,  if you are saved regardless of whether you are male or female on this earth.  He is your inheritance, and your crown of life.

There is another aspect of being created in God's image, that many do not understand.  The Bible tells us that God SAID "let there be light" and it was so.  He SAID - and it was so.

Jesus told us that whatever we ask in His name will be done by the Father to glorify the Son.  He taught that it's not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him (we don't have to worry about foods that are allowed or forbidden anymore), but it's what comes out of the mouth of a man that either makes him fit or unfit for the kingdom.  It is our speech.  We create our world by our speech, we form our circumstances by our choice of words and the belief we attach to them.

We were given creative power of speech by the creator, as He breathed His own breath into Adam's mouth to give us life, He gave us a part of Himself.  That is one of the things that sets us apart from the angels.  It is also something that makes Satan very jealous, and something he works hard to make sure you don't understand.

Children are taught a nursery rhyme - "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never harm me!"

This is a lie.  Words are the most important creative thing on this planet.  Words with love.  Words with belief.  Words with action following through.

All of mankind since Adam were born as sinners, disgraced and fallen.  When you asked Jesus to be your savior, you were instantly transformed and "translated" into the family of God.  You were given a birthright.  You were elevated from being condemned on death row, to being a glorified child of a king.

Although the transformation was forever, and can't be taken away from you, you may be able to give it away by ignoring it.  In this case, it would be described as the "seed that began to take root, but was quickly choked out by the thorns of this world".   As long as you long for God, seek Him and His gifts, you are a seed growing and remaining in God's garden.

Jesus said "He who loves me keeps my commandments."  He who overcomes, who endures to the end.

You will make mistakes and at times you may get back into something you know you shouldn't be doing.  But seek the Holy Spirit now, and His manifestation in your life, and try to read or hear the Word as often as possible.  Think on Jesus and all that His gift means to you.  Be thankful for all that you have and seek to share and be kind.  Above all, pray.  Develop a relationship with God, so you can say, Yes, I know Him!

If you do these things, your eternal outcome is assured and you can rest in the knowledge that you have the right to ask of God and to receive.

Now, I'm going to ask you again.  Who are you?  Who do men say that you are?

Define yourself in just a few words, a few gifts or titles.  Try to live up to first being a child and ambassador of God.  Then perform your duties as you should, with love and concern for your fellow man.

If someone is trying to make you do something you know is not right, DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY NO.    You have a right and a responsibility to yourself to make your actions and your life work live up to the YOU that you know inside is the true you.

If your children are expecting too much of you, remember that your job in raising them is two fold.  One - to teach them about God.  Two - to teach them how to take care of themselves.  As early as possible they should be taking over responsibility.  It DOES NOT HURT THEM.

The things that hurt children are to be babied, to be beaten, and to be unloved.  Nothing else should make you feel guilty!

It does not matter how much you buy for them, how much you do for them, as long as you have done number one and two above, and shown them love.
