6. Obey Him.
What are His commandments? Let's look at what God expects from us...
When asked what were the greatest commandments out of the 10 given to Moses, and the scores of rules the Jews were to follow, Jesus replied that there were two that must be followed.
1. To love God with all your heart, mind and soul, and
2. To love your neighbor (or others) as you love yourselves.
You reply, "oh, that's easy, I love God with all my heart and ... well, almost all of my mind, and ... Hey, do I have to love with my wallet too?"
And just WHO are these neighbors we have to love the way we love ourselves?
If you loved someone passionately, you'd think about him or her night and day. You'd long to be in her presence. You'd remember his fragrance, and what he had said to you in your last meeting. You'd plan ahead to do things that would please her. You'd watch out for opportunities to stand up for your beloved, and protect his or her name from slander. You would put his welfare ahead of yours, his interests before yours, even when you were planning your budget.
All of the effort of your soul and heart would go to the union you shared with God. This is how He longs for you to Love Him, the way He loves you.
Now to these pesky neighbors...
What if I don't like my neighbor, what if they're mean to me? What if they're not Christians or of my race and beliefs?
But my family comes first, doesn't it?...
A man and woman has a responsibility to provide for their family and to set aside tithes and offerings towards personal savings and towards the 10% tithe God asks of us to pay for funding His church and reaching out to lost souls through missionaries.
Yes, you must settle your personal budget and calendar wisely, and first. Then you must settle your position in the world.
You as a Christian, do not live separate unto yourself. You are a member of a body, the church body of your savior. Beyond that, you are an Ambassador to the Holy office of your savior, representing this Christ to the world. The only way that the world can know Jesus as the Son of God and their personal savior, is through showing the Love of God in our actions towards them.
You are a Holy channel of the outpoured Love of God, manifesting Him in this physical plane by being His voice, His caring hands, His eyes and ears and feet to the world.
A Christian has a very important calling, different for each person, since not all will become pastors of a church, but all WILL/SHOULD be witnesses and workers of the Good of God.
In a nutshell, this is the essence of loving your neighbor... Jesus died for us when we were offensive, worthless, ignorant and self seeking. No one can do worse to you than was done.
