Making money at home with your computer
To break it down very simply for you, I'm categorizing the main ways people either make money or claim you can make money, with your computer.
I recommend using a combination of some of these ideas, but start simple. Compare prices, be sure of your facts, don't spend much money and hang on for the long haul.
1. Joining programs - MLM
This means you sign up under someone else, pay your startup fee and a portion of that fee goes to the guy who signed you up. Then you sign up some people under you, and a portion of their startup fees goes to you. However, you and everyone else have to keep paying monthly fees or buying products from the main company, or there is no consistent money for anyone to be making.
Some websites and companies will tell you that their system is different, that you don't need to recruit people, or that you only pay once and never again. Once you understand how the "system" works though, you'll see that in order for anything to be profitable, the people involved all have to be putting out money.
The problem with the MLM deal is that there is usually a few guys who start the programs who receive the money promised, and the life of the program is short - so by the time you get in and want YOUR money to start coming in, it's fizzled, and suddenly your "upline" sponsors are telling you to join the NEXT "hottest" thing to come off the press.
This is an endless cycle and I've been trapped in it several times. I've studied the Internet and all of these methods for over 4 years so I know what I'm talking about.
Having said this, however, there ARE a few companies and programs that DO make money, but you can't bet the farm on it. The RIGHT way is to be selling products and taking a commission, regardless of downlines or uplines. There are EASIER ways though, and ones that make much more money than MLM.
As I said, there are some programs that are working, and one of these is something that you need regardless of what you're trying to do online. Advertising. You need a way to get your product or service in front of people that doesn't involve spam. Don't bother with mailing lists or buying names.
Simply sign up for Traffic Swarm as a free member, set your computer's browser homepage to their site (they'll give you the link) and every time you open Internet Explorer or a browser to surf on the net, you get credits.
To get extra credits, you can either sign up other people for free under you, or spend a few minutes each day clicking on other member's ads. Each time you view an ad, you get anywhere from between 1 and 500 ad credits to advertise your own stuff!
It's totally free, doesn't require any maintenance and you only mess with it when you feel like it.
2. Selling Other People's ebooks/digital products/tools with resale rights.
You will find dozens of emails and websites that say for a small fee you can resell the stuff they're selling. They'll even tell you that the material belongs to them and has never been seen before.
For the first week or two of a book's life that may be true, but the Internet is lightning fast and once they put this material up for sale, their customers are selling it again and again, until the world is full of rehashed information and you have more and more difficulty getting someone to pay for it.
If you've been in this game long, you already know that ALL marketing info, sales tools, website tools, and ideas are available somewhere online for free right now. You don't have to pay for it at all. Neither does the guy you're trying to sell it to.
(This category refers to a customer coming to your website and downloading the item from your site - which uses YOUR bandwidth and you pay for that! Affiliate programs [below] are similar but you don't have to handle the downloads, you only refer people to someone else's site - they pay for the bandwidth!)
SO! Unless you're writing your own BRAND NEW material, (which you can do - see below), or want to create a website to sell rehashed stuff at a discount, don't bother with this one.
Take the free stuff that's offered as you need it. Mark them carefully in your computer so you know which you are allowed to hand out, and use it as a free giveaway on your site for your customers.
The traps for all these programs are the HYPE that is written to push you into parting with your money!
3. Writing your own digital products.
There is always room for new ideas, new ways of saying the old ideas, and new ways of packaging bundles of things together. You can create these products. Write about what you know.
If you're new to the Internet, then forget writing "how to make a fortune on your computer" stuff, and write what you KNOW.
Things from the real world APPLY to life in cyber space, so go ahead and write. (Pets, Finances, Real Estate - whatever it is you know about.)
(Sell them on eBay too, or find affiliates to sell FOR you.)
You can write fiction (pretend) material, you can write news or how to do things people are interested in.
You can create a site that runs OTHER people's news, books and products. There are news sites that make money, just retelling RSS feeds etc.
Decide what your passion is, and DO THAT! The money is where your heart is, my friend. Find your heart and the rainbow will point the way to your pocketbook.
Sell from your site with Paypal.com or place your ebook product with WildChildPublishing.com, FreyasBower.com or Booklocker.com.
4. Creating a website, selling products, services or web space.
If you have a website, you can sell things you make, things you buy, things other people have for sale.
You can place other people's advertisements on your website and charge money for it.
You can sign up as an affiliate (see below), place links on your pages, and sell everything in the world for a small fee - all online while you sleep.
You can also buy and resell web hosting space from the big guys, but I strongly advise against this. Too many details, too many responsibilities and if you don't keep your customers happy you're out of business. The problem with this is, you don't own the servers so you have no control over the product you sell.
Or you can forget the website and sell direct on eBay. Not hard at all, but as with everything - consistence pays off in the long run.
5. Affiliate sales
I think this is the easiest and quickest way for new Internet users to make some money online. It requires only to visit some websites of things you're interested in, and sign up to be an affiliate, which means you put a link to them on your site or in your signature line on your emails, and if anyone visits them through your link, and makes a purchase, you get a portion of that money.
You don't need a website, you can use emails or you can write articles to submit to online magazines (called ezines). All ezines, newsletters and websites need content, and they accept your articles, letting you place your short bio and links at the end of the article.
When readers want more information on the subject, they click on your links which register on the affiliate sites as having come through your efforts.
Having your own website makes it easier, and you can draw viewers to your site by having something written on your site of interest or information for them. (Accept the articles of other people!) Then put lots of affiliate links on there, things that are relevant to the subject of your website and money WILL trickle in.
You can aggressively market your site and your "partner's" products by writing articles, telling many people about it, and by making friends in chat rooms and groups.
You could also write your own EZINE, but this requires work and commitment, and perhaps is something you should leave until you know more about the tools of the trade and methods used.
